THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chez Mimi Restaurant Review:
For those who lamented the closing of Chez Mimi in Santa Monica, a charming and romantic bistro, owner Micheline Hébert has re-created her long-running concept in the highlands above Pacific Palisades, just up PCH. The French-Canadian Hébert offers a menu of bistro classics, starting with house-made pâtés, a solid onion soup gratinée or garlicky escargots --- even the rarely seen old-school favorite, vichyssoise. From there, a mostly mature clientele moves on to the likes of cassoulet, steak au poivre with good frites, or chicken in a creamy Dijon mustard sauce, washed down with a modest Côtes du Rhône from an approachable, thoughtful list. For a finale, consider crêpes Suzette or a solid tarte Tatin. Tables topped with linen and flowers, vintage beverage posters lining the walls, and a dog-friendly patio give the place plenty of traditional charm.
