THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chi Lin Restaurant Review:
Chi Lin is the result of a powerful combination of culinary forces. Innovative Dining Group, who operates RivaBella next door as well as several other spots including Sushi Roku and BOA Steakhouse, partnered with Cecile Tang (Joss Cuisine/Traditional) on this Hong Kong-inspired restaurant. Veteran chef Yujean Kang initially helmed the kitchen, but Tyson Wong Ophaso has since taken over as executive chef. The dark and elaborately decorated space encompasses a bar by the entrance, a small room with a retractable roof, and a main dining room illuminated by a network of hundreds of lanterns suspended from the ceiling. Mirrors are positioned on the walls to create reflections of branches and butterflies stretching into infinity. The noise level can get loud, but that's par for the course at a Sunset Boulevard hotspot. From the appetizers, skip the prawn, crab and asparagus toast in favor of the wok-fired clams with lap xuong sausage and XO sauce. Continue with Alaskan king crab legs cooked in crispy garlic and chile or “Kang style” black cod braised in ginger and star anise, served with fava beans and pineapple stalk. The Peking duck aficionados will be very happy with the one prepared by chef Wong. End your meal with the green tea matcha cake. There’s an international wine list plus interesting cocktails such as The Spice Route made with Tru vanilla vodka, fenugreek leaves, lime and cumin. Happy hour is offered Mon.-Fri. from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. with specials on drinks and appetizers.
