THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chiwawa Restaurant Review:
Authentic Mexican food and hot dogs may seem like an unusual pairing, but it’s all part of this Midtown café’s eclectic menu. The former strays from the all-too-common Tex-Mex served in many Memphis restaurants, while the latter are dressed up with house-made mustard slaw, and some, like the Chiwawa Dog, come wrapped in bacon. For a real treat, try the Dirty Diana Dog, chicken and apple sausage on a pretzel bun with buffalo hot sauce and blue cheese. There’s even a hearty vegan hot dog with black bean hummus and spicy slaw. Since items are served à la carte, be sure to order papas (french fries served with chipotle sauce) or the homemade chips and guacamole to round out the meal. Vegetarians, be aware that Chiwawa’s homemade chips and fries are deep-fried in animal fat, but veg-friendly versions may be available upon request with advance notice. Chiwawa’s spacious patio is a place to relax with one of the signature margaritas or house-made sangría. Stop in at brunch for breakfast burritos and scrambles with discounted Bloody Marys and mimosas.
