Chuck’s Restaurant Review:
A remodeled storefront, Chuck’s features original brick walls and glass windows in front. Uncomfortable backless stools and poor acoustics make it a space not for lingering, but the food is worth the potential slight discomfort. Owner-executive chef Ashley Christensen is one of Raleigh’s most accomplished and well-known culinary professionals. On offer is a changing menu of “specialty” burgers, made with pure ground chuck, of course, and topped with such combinations of ingredients as crushed avocado, red peppers; and blue cheese or beets, red onion and a garlic aïoli. Patrons may also craft their own burgers (including specifying the degree of doneness). Gourmet hot dogs, fried chicken sandwiches, a shrimp burger, veggie burger and juicy BLT vie for attention. There are no desserts; however, a variety of milkshakes includes a peanut butter banana combo. A selection of bottled and draft beers and a well-chosen wine list, mostly reds from California vineyards, uplift the experience.
