Coley’s Jamaica’s Best Cuisine Restaurant Review:
Donald and Audrey Coley first opened their family-run café in 1982 on Crenshaw Boulevard, then moved it to the present North Hollywood location, but they still offer some of the best Jamaican food in town. Seafood is especially popular, particularly the feather-light codfish fritters and shrimp St. James --- lots of tender shrimp and okra in a subtly spicy coconut-cream sauce. Savory Jamaican patties are stuffed with beef and shrimp. Chicken Lockerton focuses on deep-fried, banana-stuffed chicken breast that’s the antithesis of nouvelle cuisine, yet irresistible. For dessert, order the sweet peach cobbler. During weekday lunch, there’s a wide-ranging buffet. On Sundays, the buffet includes Champagne.
