Commoner & Co. Restaurant Review:
Commoner & Co. is brought to you by the same folks that run Prep & Pastry, but while P&P is known for creative takes on breakfast and lunch, Commoner turns its focus to dinner. Chef Ginny Wooters digs into her Southern roots and marries them with flavors from all over the world. Fried green tomatoes, for example, are topped with prosciutto and house-made ricotta, and instead of chicken and waffles, Wooters makes fried duck with blueberry waffles glazed with bourbon-maple syrup. Meat dishes include short ribs, a flat-iron pork chop and a rib-eye accompanied by a beet-and-Parmesan gratin, and a green bean, celery, blue cheese and pickled horseradish salad atop a lovely balsamic-raisin sauce. Weekend brunch proffers many of the same items, but additions include biscuits and gravy and a tasty grilled cheese sandwich. Desserts are ever-changing; cocktails zigzag between sweet and tart; and we like the many wines available by the glass, some of which are on tap.
