THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cortona Contemporary Italian Restaurant Review:
Cortona’s Italian dishes have the depth of flavor and fancy presentation of those offered at a gourmet restaurant, but they’re served in a hip setting free of pretentiousness. Sure, there are crisp, white tablecloths and fine wines, but there’s something in the air at this Midtown spot that lends it a laidback ambience. Roasted chicken and asparagus ravioli and tilapia piccata present unusual twists on typical Italian fare, but meat lasagna also is on hand for the traditionalists. Flatbread pizzas are available with a variety of toppings, such as escarole, sausage, olives and capers. Cannellini dip, served with pita bread, is a refreshing start to the meal, and tiramisu is the dessert of choice. Sunday brunch choices include poached eggs with prosciutto or crab cakes Benedict. The wine list is decent, with more than 20 wines by the glass and a small sampling of fine Italian cellar selections by the bottle.
