THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cosi Restaurant Review:
Think Dean & Deluca meets Subway. Brothers Jay and Shep Wainwright, two law school dropouts, have spawned these trendy, terrific sandwich shops all over Manhattan. Inspired by Così Così in Paris bookish and boutiquey 7th arrondissement, Cosìs concept is unbeatable: mix and match one, two or three ingredients for a stuffed sandwich made with Italian flatbread (Pizza Romana), freshly baked in a wood-burning forno. Were not just talking tuna fish and roast beef. Cosìs choices range from West Indian curried chicken, roasted plum turkey, and smoked Norwegian salmon, to roasted portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions and fresh basil. Still not exotic enough for you? Ask for a dollop or two (portions are huge) of sun-dried tomato, crème fraîche, spinach-artichoke or cucumber tziziki spread. Così makes its own fresh mozzarella cheese, and begins serving up mochaccinos and muffins starting at 7 a.m. The rush is on at lunchtime, but you can call for delivery. With 12 locations around the city and counting, Così is so successful, we bet that Jay and Sheps mom has forgiven them for dropping out of law school.
