THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Cowboy Way Restaurant Review:
Daniel Placencia isn’t your typical restaurateur. He’s a rancher, a cowboy. And who better to run a Santa Ynez Valley barbecue joint than a real cowboy? Skip the salad, this is a place for slow-smoked meat: Kansas City-style beef, chicken and pork, flavored with red oak and hickory then sweetened up with a tangy sauce. The regional favorite, tri-tip --- a local specialty of nearby Santa Maria --- is on the menu, but a pulled pork sandwich covered in coleslaw is even better. If you simply must have tri-tip, order the Cow Poke, a French roll smothered in shredded tri-tip mixed with barbecue sauce or horseradish. And if you really can’t decide, there’s a combo plate with pork, brisket and tri-tip. Desserts include sweet potato pie and caramel bread pudding. The atmosphere is informal, the service down-home friendly.
