Cyclone Anaya’s Mexican Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Not in a whirlwind but more like a gentle breeze, Cyclone Anaya’s Mexican Kitchen in the Mosaic District presents a huge, modernistic setting that features loads of TVs tuned to sports and a milling crowd. But despite one’s hopes pinned on the fame of the namesake celebrity wrestler, the food is aimed at midlevel palates wishing for “safe” Mexican eats. One can start off with a margarita or mojito or two, to say nothing of wines and beers. Lunch offerings will consist of a daily special such as a soup, perhaps Tuesday’s notable roasted poblano with tortilla strips, as well as jumbo lump crab cakes with avocado, and an assortment of tacos and flautas, salads and sandwiches. Dinner menus are more complicated and fulfilling with main dishes that extend to Tex-Mex combos and house specials, including the roasted chicken chile rellenos, and grilled selections like fajitas, carne asada and chicken. For dessert, don’t miss the Key lime pie, worth the calories and the trip to this Fairfax destination.
