Dutch Garden Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Tucked in a quiet section of Upper State Street, the Dutch Garden is so under the radar most people don't even know it’s there. With its old-world ambience and old-guard regulars, it’s a far cry from the hip eateries and nightclubs in downtown. In spite of the name, Dutch Garden serves traditional German food like sauerbraten, pork jaeger schnitzel and beef roulade, all of which are robust. Entrées come with a simple salad, fresh bread and a choice of potato salad or potato pancakes. Patrons quaff steins of Spaten and Kostritzer at the narrow lunch counter or gather outside on an overgrown patio. Desserts include a dense Black Forest cake and an equally dense peach cobbler. If you have time for a nap after the meal, pair one of the many German beers with the Strammer Max, an open-face ham sandwich topped with a fried egg. While service is friendly and familiar, dining here takes longer than expected.
