E2 Restaurant Review:
What began as a hot brunch spot has morphed into a neighborhood mainstay. Chef/owner Kate Romane's ingredients are seasonal and emanate from local purveyors and farms. The dynamic kitchen at E2 (E squared) produces a dizzying array of choices: bites, such as marinated olives; tasting platters of fine artisan meats; a chalkboard of nightly specials; a chef-driven menu of familiar yet unusual appetizers, mains, soups and salads served in large, often sharable, portions. Enjoy easy-rolling meatballs in red sauce or wild mushroom ravioli or smoked salmon carbonara. Many of the pastas shine: try tortellini in a classic pesto. Desserts are limited and simple --- biscotti, for example. Brunch items change frequently, ranging from a bag of chocolate-pistachio donuts to deep-fried risotto cake. It’s BYOB with a $6 corkage fee per bottle. Watch for special events, such as the family-style Sunday Sauce dinners.
