Eagle Restaurant Review:
London’s first gastropub opened in 1991, the pioneer of one of the great success stories in British cuisine. And the much-loved, slightly scruffy Eagle still manages to get the balance right between a place to drink and a place to eat. Iberian-influenced dishes are wholesome and good: heartening, welcoming plates of Napoli sausages with polenta and red onions; sea bass with aïoli and satisfying tarts to follow. The beers include real ales and summery white beer. The Eagle gets absurdly busy and you're well advised to arrive early if you want a seat. This is the role model that launched a hundred chalkboard-menu gastropubs.
