El Cholo Cafe Restaurant Review:
The famous El Cholo, boasting L.A.'s most legendary margaritas, continues its generations-old traditions in Pasadena, on the upper level of Paseo Colorado. The restaurant offers a predictable Mexican décor, but with a bit more style than most, and spills onto a pleasant, fountain-laden patio. The menu is as predictable as the L.A.-Mex interior, but most items are generally well prepared. Popular dishes, which trace family recipes back to 1923, include guacamole prepared tableside, carne asada, tacos al carbon, a variety of sizzling fajitas and the restaurant’s famous green corn tamales (May through October only). The El Cholo chain is the world’s largest buyer of Cuervo 1800 tequila, and the house’s signature margarita is so smooth it’s been nicknamed “L.A. Lemonade.” El Cholo is a Pasadena favorite.
