El Pelon Taqueria Restaurant Review:
This small and cheery taqueria in the heavily twenty-something Fenway neighborhood offers authentic Mexican fare. Loretta Huguez, the chef-owner, comes from a Mexican-American family, was the sous chef at South End mainstay Tremont 647, and has harbored a lifelong dream of opening her own taqueria. Burritos are tops in the Hub for their party-on-the-palate fillings. Tacos are thoughtfully constructed with corn tortillas and garnished with addictive limed onions and pickled cabbage; the fish-filled version is rightly revered. But staples are only half the story here: There's also some honest, vernacular Mexican cooking going down. Poblano tamales are a treat, as is the torta with carne asada and those ubiquitous limed onions.
