This downtown foodie haunt scores better marks at dinner than at lunch, when a rather pedestrian menu disappoints more discriminating palates. Located across from the Sunken Gardens, one of Santa Barbara’s most picturesque settings, the restaurant is attractive, high-concept and, perhaps, slightly pretentious. Menu selections are divided by the four elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire. Entrée highlights include slow-braised beef short ribs with a port wine demi-glace; oven-roasted Kurobuta pork chop with fruit compote and thyme jus; and Black Angus filet au poivre served with a bourbon cream sauce. Half of the dessert menu is completely wheat- and gluten-free, including standards such as bananas Foster, crème brûlée and dark chocolate mousse.
