Ellicott Mills Brewing Co. Restaurant Review:
A shiny copper brewhouse greets you at the door of this restored stone edifice, once headquarters of a former lumberyard on Ellicott City's Main Street. In it, the braumeister concocts his German-style Alpenhof lagers and ales: a malty Dunkel; a smooth Marzen; a light, sweet Kolsch; a full-bodied Aussie-style Boomerang; and other international and seasonal beers. Take in the Batman-themed downstairs bar, or head upstairs to an airy second-floor dining room to match your house brew with sustenance, say a platter of venison sausage with red cabbage, beer-marinated baby-back ribs, sautéed scallops in Marsala cream sauce, or a traditional jagerschnitzel. Light fare, too, is available at dinnertime, and there’s a half-pound bison burger and a plump crab cake sandwich. Reservations are suggested on Fridays and Saturdays for groups of six or more.
