This charming little eatery has never quite recovered from the departure of its original owners from Buenos Aires, but still serves among the best Argentinean empanadas in the San Gabriel Valley. They are baked to a golden-brown finish, not fried, and filled with the likes of cheese and onions, chicken, beef, ratatouille, basil or spinach. Unfortunately, the chimichurri that accompanies them lacks spirit and main dishes, particularly pastas, fall far short of the quality of the empanadas. The simple space is lined with travel posters, and a broad patio provides a pleasant al fresco experience in downtown Monrovia. For your next party, consider ordering a box of cocktail-size empanadas to-go.
