This San Clemente restaurant, tucked away in an expansive shopping center in the shadow of the Santa Ana Mountains, possesses a warm neighborhood feel, which is enhanced by a small well-lit bar, a nice list of wine and cocktails, and high-definition TVs hung in the compact dining room area. Owner and chef Nicola Bellazzi mans the open kitchen and utilizes the techniques and recipes learned while growing up in Piacenza, Italy, to produce hearty Italian fare. Abundant pasta options include the traditional spaghetti, ragù alla Bolognese and mamma’s own lasagna. Special weekend items like osso buco join regular dishes like cioppino and pollo Milanese. Classic desserts such as the massive tiramisu and fluffy profiteroles drenched in a semi-sweet chocolate do a nice job of rounding out the meal.
