ETA Restaurant + Bar Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: Riffing off a transportation theme, ETA’s DNA is very much about the guests staying at Loews Chicago Hotel, or locals from the Streeterville neighborhood. All-day diners stream in for cocktails named after things in motion: the Brown Line and the Express Train, to name a few. A neutral palette of browns, grays and creams complements the wood beamed ceiling.
Likes: Generous comfort fare.
Dislikes: There wouldn’t be much of a “scene” here, so consider it a night for a quiet dinner and drinks.
Food & Drinks: Loews Chicago Hotel guests need not travel far for comfort food or solid cocktails. Chef Matt Lange designs a classic tavern menu that incorporates local flavors. The avocado toast is unpredictable with its smear of nduja, an earthy foil to its layer of citrus salad. Beer cheese croquettes and chicken fried mushrooms are other selections. A sizeable house greens salad built with shaved vegetables, sunflower seeds and vinaigrette is worthy as a standalone entrée. A succulent bone-in pork chop pairs nicely with apple compote, and the burger of the month or chicken and dumplings seduce when the occasion calls for the familiar. Drink local for beer; the Zephyr is a bright golden ale brewed at Chicago’s own Revolution Brewery. Several by-the-glass options make for a strong global wine list.
