Fado Irish Pub Restaurant Review:
Fadó is shaped by bits and pieces that were fashioned in Ireland and assembled here. So the place looks like it stepped right off the last flight from Dublin. The rooftop patio boasts a heated floor, just in case Atlanta's weather gets too brisk for the festivities at hand. Irish dishes vie with American standards such as burgers, and there are some unusual cross-bred items as well. Boxty, for instance, is a potato-based pancake filled with meat --- here it's steak --- and vegetables. On this menu, boxty substitutes for tortillas in a so-called "quesadilla." Irish breakfast, complete with black and white pudding, mushrooms, sautéed tomatoes and potato bread, is an all-day-long offering, but you'll have to order the requisite beans as a side item. Banana nut bread french toast and eggs Benedict also rate. Have the black-and-tan brownie if for no other reason than to get a hold of the Guinness ice cream. The beer list, besides Guinness, has a number of Irish quaffs, but on the whole isn't especially challenging. More interesting is the range of Irish whiskeys on hand. Happy hour from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. weekdays offers special drink and appetizer prices. The place appeals to sports fans devoted to European teams as well as the Florida 'Gators. Also located in Midtown at 933 Peachtree St. NE, 404-260-7910.
