Fair Oaks Pharmacy & Soda Fountain Restaurant Review:
Since 1915, the Fair Oaks Pharmacy, located on historic Route 66, has been home to a traditional corner soda fountain filled with antique pharmacy fixtures. This is nostalgia at its best. We feel like wide-eyed kids, bellying up to the marble counter with its chrome stools and stained-glass cabinetry. The ice cream in the sundaes, shakes and sodas with flavors like lime, cherry, chocolate or vanilla is so-so (although some say the malts are the best in the area), but the ambience and the friendly service from clean-cut, local teenagers makes up for it. For lunch, there are sandwiches like homemade egg salad and a triple-decker club, in addition to salads, hot dogs and a few hamburgers. The pharmacy itself is modern, and the gift shop quite charming.
