Falafel’s Drive In has been open on busy Stevens Creek Boulevard since 1966. As the name suggests, falafel is the specialty, and that’s what nine out of ten customers order. The messy sandwiches come in small and large sizes (go for the large --- it’s not much more expensive). The hot, crispy falafel balls are stuffed in a pita and dressed with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, tahini sauce and a zesty hot sauce. Stand-out, smoky baba ghanouj and very good hummus come with pita bread, pickled turnips, cucumbers and tomatoes. Carnivores will find dishes such as gyros and chicken. Eager to cater to many tastes, Falafel’s also offers burgers, hot dogs and fries. Baklava is the extent of dessert, although milkshakes (including its famous banana) are almost a must-order. Most of the seating is in a covered area outdoors. Come early or late for lunch to avoid standing in line.
