Father's Office Restaurant Review:
This second edition of the popular Santa Monica burger-and-brews spot, located in the Helms Bakery building on the edge of Culver City, relieves some of the pent-up demand for what is routinely regarded as one of the best burgers in L.A. The legendary Office Burger from chef/owner Sang Yoon consists of dry-aged beef topped with Maytag blue and Gruyère cheeses, caramelized onions, apple wood-smoked bacon compote and arugula. It doesn’t deviate from the version served at the original location, nor does the quality of sweet potato fries, served in a miniature shopping cart and accompanied by garlicky aïoli (don’t even think of asking for ketchup, which is taboo in either FO locations). You can also find inventive Spanish-inspired tapas (particularly worth ordering if the dish includes squid or octopus) and a highly respectable steak frites, not to mention a wide selection of obscure domestic and international microbrews. This outlet of Father’s Office is larger and flashier than the original, but the vibe is consistent --- and it can be just as crowded.
