THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Flames Restaurant Review:
Located in Detroit’s luxurious MotorCity Casino-Hotel, this hopping place dishes up food from dawn to well past dusk. Begin in the a.m. with a Maine lobster and Maryland blue crab frittata---three eggs baked, topped with béarnaise and served with breakfast potatoes. Lunch is every bit as appealing. Try haloumi cheese sticks, which are marinated in brandy, fried and accompanied with homemade marinara. Feeling like a hometown sandwich? Go for the Detroit cheesesteak, blanketed with sautéed mushrooms, onion, peppers and Provolone on a toasted hoagie roll. A more substantial meal arrives in the form of American Kobe short ribs, which are braised in herbaceous veal stock and served with homemade barbecue sauce and white cheddar mashed potatoes. The meatloaf, touched with apple wood-smoked bacon and mushrooms and topped with tomato sauce, is a safe bet, too. Follow-ups include the warm chocolate chip cookie pan---layers of brownie and vanilla ice cream, topped with fudge sauce, sugared walnuts and fresh whipped cream.
