A fish fry isn't quite the cheap family dinner it once was, but a stop at "The Shack" for clam cakes and chowder is a must on any visit to Newport.

Flo's Clam Shack Restaurant Review:
Located just over the town line in Middletown, Flo's features a busy takeout window, patio and upstairs dining (with a few choice deck seats with beach views), plus a friendly nautical pub and raw bar. Flo's famous fried clams or lobster rolls can cost you as much as an entrée at a tonier restaurant, but the fish is fresh, the preparations are classic New England, and the meals go down easy with a pitcher of Bud on draft. Fish ‘n’ chips --- fried but not too greasy --- are a relative bargain, and there are hot dogs and burgers if the kids don't like seafood.
