The Galley Seafood Restaurant Review:
Galley Seafood is tucked away in Old Metairie, and it’s a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of crowded downtown eateries. It fills the bill with admirable fried seafood and boiled crabs and shrimp, which are delivered warm to the table. A soft-shell crab po’ boy and a properly swampy seafood gumbo are winners, too. Home-style daily specials can prove rewarding, especially the ones topped with fresh lump crab meat. Homemade bread puddin’ and a brownie à la mode are the top desserts. The wine list deals in big-name standards. Kids have their own menu with such items as a seafood “basket.” An alternative to the unremarkable, frequently crowded dining room is a covered-seating patio out front, ideal for the often-messy exercise of shelling hard-shell crabs. PS: The parking lot is a little tight and service might be a bit sluggish, but you won’t mind when you see the bill. Reasonable is an understatement.
