Good News Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review:
Restaurants come and go in tony Litchfield County, but chef Carole Peck's Good News Cafe sustains those looking for a good meal in this star-studded rural area of the state. Peck was way ahead of the curve when she looked to local ingredients for her kitchen, and her menu illustrates just how satisfying food can be when you cook with what’s within your agricultural reach. Entrées range from a grilled-game plate with venison steak and wild boar chop to Rosenkranz Farm grass-fed beef short ribs. There is also a gluten-free menu as well as daily specials that reflect Peck's interest in dishes with Latin, Mediterranean and Asian influences. For dessert, there’s the classic “Mile High” coconut cake with mango and raspberry sauce, the made-daily fresh fruit tart with Arethusa Farms ice cream and caramel sauce, and the “Better Than Yankee Doodles” chocolate cupcake with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The wine list is both extensive and sophisticated; consider the 2006 Flowers Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, and the 2006 Grove Ridge Zinfandel.
