Gwyn's High Alpine Restaurant Review:
Accessible only by skis, this small, white-tablecloth restaurant with windows overlooking the scenic surroundings has long been one of the best restaurants on Snowmass Mountain. The mood is Tyrolean informal and the food is always fresh and appealing. Savvy skiers and crowd-shy celebs beat the morning mall congestion by starting their day here. Consider the Alpine potatoes sautéed with fresh mushrooms, zucchini, green onions and tomatoes with Alouette, Jack and cheddar cheeses. Reservations are a must at lunch, when you might start with wild mushroom risotto featuring chanterelles, porcinis and shiitakes --- you could even split the ample portion. Move on to elk medallions in the sauce du jour or tenderloin on brioche with horseradish aïoli, followed by warm pie à la mode. And even if you’re not a day drinker, make an exception: the wine list boasts its share of gems.
