Hawthorne Restaurant Review:
Hawthorne is a four-level bistro and bar in the U St. Corridor. Executive chef Dot Steck has created a menu that starts with a hummus appetizer and extends to a steak frites dinner. Dishes like garlic braised chicken, salt cod croquettes, a truffled cheddar cheeseburger and jumbo lump crab cake bring into focus Hawthorne’s philosophy of creating “food to drink by.” Each mussel entrée is served with a fresh baguette, duck-fat french fries and garlic aïoli. The cocktail menu features the Rosemary Gin Fizz and the Hawthorne Smash, the signature drink made with Old Forester 86 and a choice of two fruits.
