Hen Quarter Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: In Old Town Alexandria, Hen Quarter’s setting is most welcoming, with waitstaff that is eager to help and a chef who appears regularly to check in on what you are eating and enjoying. Seating is downstairs and upstairs, the latter for folks who don’t mind the climb.
Likes: Honey biscuits with fig jam and the many chicken choices.
Dislikes: Limited dessert menu.
Food & Drinks: From the menu of chicken- and Southern-based fare, kick off the meal with the devilled eggs or the fried green tomatoes, or both. Also tempting is the fried chicken cracklings with “roaster hot honey.” For the main course, if you are looking for lighter fare, select an entrée salad. But for a full-on repast, consider the chicken and waffles platter or the fried jumbo chicken wings with sweet potato fries. At lunch, choose from the Southern fried chicken salad with red grapes and watermelon and an HQBLT sandwich comprising chicken breast on toasted naan with maple-bacon and more --- it will make your day. Scan the bar list of Free Range Cocktails and pick out one of the bourbon-based drinks. Dessert options might include a chocolate turtle pudding or fried Twinkies. Other locations.
