Hoyle's Kitchen + Bar Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Hardy Ivy (1779-1842) was the first person of European ancestry to settle within the original city limits of Atlanta. One of his direct descendants, George Hoyle Ivey, Jr., grandfather of one of this establishment's founders, Joe Ivey (the family's surname has slightly changed in spelling over the generations), is the inspiration for the name of Hoyle's Kitchen + Bar, a sports bar and restaurant with an adjacent games-loaded space.
Likes: Bar atmosphere with games and TVs yet with from-scratch, intelligent food.
Dislikes: Noise level --- hard to hear your server.
Food & Drinks: Executive chef Zach Starr has crafted a menu that sets the place apart from so many others: dishes are made from scratch. If you come with friends, try the house-made loaded tater tots, topped with cheese, bacon, chives and a bit of sriracha. We opted for a brisket plate, and for sides went for mac 'n' cheese and Southern slaw. Tacos and burgers are also options. For dessert, consider the white chocolate bread pudding. Local craft brews are among the quaffs to sample, although there are some wines and inventive cocktails as well.
