Hula Hut Restaurant Review:
Far trendier than your typical "hut," Hula Hut boasts a colorful “Mexonesian” menu (bold Mexican food with Polynesian flair). Given the idyllic Lake Austin setting of this tropical Texan paradise, it wouldn’t much matter if the food were good, but lucky for us, it usually is. A perennial favorite (as an appetizer or entrée) is the stuffed avocado --- loaded with roasted chicken, cheese, chile and spices before being lightly fried and dressed with cheesy goodness. We like the Hawaiian-style Hula Hut burger with poblano chile, bacon and grilled pineapple for its savory-sweet-spicy flavor contrasts. Vegetarians can go for the dewy grilled veggie enchiladas or the "palm tree hugger" nachos with black beans, carrots, spinach, mushrooms and Jack cheese. Don’t miss the vibrant guacamole served with mango and pineapple salsa. When the line at this festive eatery gets long, head out to the grass-thatched Palapa Bar for a mango margarita and to watch the sun set over the water.
