The Hungry i Restaurant Review:
Combining the flavors of France and the history of Beacon Hill, The Hungry i is a romantic spot, nestled in the lower level of a restored 1840's brownstone. Three fireplaces, an outdoor courtyard, plus three dining rooms outfitted with tapestries, polished antiques and flickering candlelight provide an intimate atmosphere. Diners have been flocking here for more than 25 years for chef/owner Peter Ballarin’s cuisine. Start with the petit ricotta and onion turnovers with grape Zinfandel coulis, then move to the signature venison au poivre, sautéed and flamed with Cognac then wrapped in a velvety blanket of red wine and sour cream. Attentive servers dote on couples out for a special occasion, many times a wedding proposal or an anniversary. Desserts include the opera torte.
