Il Lupino Trattoria & Wine Bar takes its moniker --- "the little wolf" in Italian --- from a nickname of restaurateur Wolfgang Zwiener, who is also behind Wolfgang's Steakhouse, located steps away in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Il Lupino serves a variety of classic insalate, pizzas, pasta and traditional seafood or meat dishes that are tasty, if not necessarily innovative. You may want to skip the multi-course meal and instead opt for happy hour to enjoy a handcrafted cocktail or a glass of wine with the bruschetta trio or the polpettone al pomodoro, a meatball made from a mixture of veal, pork and beef simmered in a rich tomato sauce. Weekend Champagne brunch is another good time to visit, especially if you can nab a table on the open-air patio for its vantage point for people-watching under the trees in the Royal Hawaiian coconut grove.
