Il Principe Restaurant Review:
Located in the Hotel Hugo in west SoHo, Il Principe is a handsome spot to while away a meal, highlighted by retro-ish wood paneling and lots of curved lines. As the name of the restaurant suggests, the menu is all Italian, traditionally separated by antipasti, primi and secondi. Come hungry and order something from each section. Start with a fresh kale salad, laced with fennel and salty ricotta salata. Then move on to the spaghetti carbonara, topped by a poached egg that breaks with the first stab of the fork, drizzling it throughout. Steaks at non-steakhouses are never that good; the bistecca here is thick and juicy with a slightly crispy, peppery exterior. The wine list has a strong Italian accent, but there are also good options from California and Oregon. For a sweet finish, don’t skip the tiramisu.
