India House Restaurant Review:
India House can’t match the worldly kitchens of Boston or Montreal, but it’s a decent place for comfort food from the Far East. Consider the sweet, simmering coconut soup, sprinkled with crushed pistachios, or the fist-size vegetable samosas with spicy mint and tamarind sauce. These piping hot fried turnovers are stuffed with savory potato and peas. Indian food is truly a cuisine best shared. From fragrant rogan josh, rich with paprika and clarified butter, to saag paneer, brimming with firm cubes of cheese in spicy, creamed spinach, no two tastes are the same. Bored with flatbreads? Trade naan for whole-wheat poori. Some dishes are on the dry and bland side, such as the vegetable pakora fritters and chicken tikka. To brighten up your meal, try a glass of India’s flagship Sauvignon Blanc: Sula. For dessert, go for mango ice cream or kulfee: ice cream made from reduced milk, almonds and pistachios.
