THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Italia Cafe Restaurant & Wine Bar Restaurant Review:
Turning a former fast-food joint into a casual Italian trattoria, Italy native Giorgio Esperti sheathed the ceiling of this space in burnished metal to achieve a warm glow. He transformed the ordering bar into a service area shielding the kitchen, which was re-equipped for serious cooking, that of his wife, Sandra. Bruschetta presents slices of good house-baked bread topped with rich, ripe minced tomato or a fine salmon spread. The seasonal soup of the day, for fall a pumpkin bisque, comes adorned with toasted pumpkin seeds. Gnocchi, also made in-house, is offered with pesto and grated cheese. There’s also a first-rate stuffed mushroom ravioli, served with a cream sauce flecked with rose peppercorns. Chicken Marsala takes this typically ho-hum dish to another level, with lovely fresh mushrooms. And the tiramisu is a version you do not want to miss. The short wine list is all-Italian, nicely priced, and very good---not a dud in the lot.
