Java Jive Coffee House & Cafe Restaurant Review:
This space flashes back to the 1950s, with aluminum-banded Formica-topped tables perched on aluminum legs, a period stove collection and other memorabilia straight out of the era. Shira Levetan and Steven Horwitz have created a special niche for themselves and for breakfast. We like the whole-grain whole-wheat pancakes with warmed real maple syrup. The Santa Fe Scramble is a serious one-dish all-day meal, with eggs, potatoes and chorizo. Any of the omelets is a worthy contender for attention. Get there very early or very late especially on weekends (the only time ginger waffles are available), and mark your calendar for the pumpkin pancakes the last two weekends in October. Java Jive closes at 2 p.m. during the week and at 2:30 p.m. on weekends, so one could make breakfast into lunch if desired. No credit cards are taken, but there is an ATM machine.
