Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Housed in the opulent Vail Mansion, Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen is named for a nearby Revolutionary War encampment. The restaurant is the creation of Chris Cannon, a New York restaurateur known for Manhattan eateries such as Convivio, Alto, Palio, Remi and L'Impero. The unique design offers dining options in four areas: The Oyster Bar, a tapas and raw bar with an à la carte menu; The Dining Room on the second floor; The Vail Bar, a 1920's-inspired cocktail lounge in the mansion's library; and The Rathskeller for private dining or special events. The Dining Room menu presents Italian-inspired and modern American fare featuring meticulously prepared dishes such as acorn squash with winter black truffle and Castelmagno risotto; dry-aged Long Island duck confit with duck heart, abalone and mushroom; and roasted Wagyu sirloin with black pepper bagna cauda and smoked eggplant. The wine list is extensive with 500 bottles and more than 40 wines by the glass. There’s also a rotating selection of 50 wines for less than fifty dollars. Desserts are not neglected. Sample the mascarpone semifreddo with gingerbread, sparkling cranberry soup and pistachio croquant to verify this statement.
