This diminutive seafood eatery, with its casual vibe, seems par for the course along the gritty stretch of Western Avenue it inhabits. There’s nothing overly fancy about the nautically themed spot --- salvaged ship parts and fishing gear serve as rustic décor --- where landlubbers look to a chalkboard menu to select their jumbo shrimp and catfish nuggets by the half or full pound before bellying up on buoy-shaped stools. But you may be thrown off guard to find the owners are seasoned restaurateurs who once cooked at Japonais. Although this venture is a 180 from their swank former digs, their expertise shines through in standouts like the New Orleans-style po’ boy, which is packed with spicy baby shrimp, and a grilled mahi mahi wrapped in lettuce.
