THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED John Barleycorn Restaurant Review:
Dark and a little mysterious, this former speakeasy was built in 1890 by an Irish cop. With a fifties kind of allure (provided that's your thing) and a laid-back crowd, it’s a neighborhood joint that folks like having around. They've been doing the burger thing for decades: thick and juicy, the patty is constructed of choice ground-round, and it plain tastes good. But you’ll also find surprises like a Mediterranean salad with kalamata olives, feta cheese and grape tomatoes. Nightly specials add to the menu mix. Additional locations are in River North, Wrigleyville and suburban Schaumburg.
