This original location of the local coffeehouse chain offers first-rate java from around the world, each with a unique roast profile for maximum flavor. The brand has become a staple on grocery shelves and at coffee counters across the metro area. And while it’s a leader in fair-trade, organic and single-origin coffees, plenty of patrons still opt for basic beans in a straightforward dark Italian roast. Morning sees a mix of office workers, families and students from the nearby universities and seminary noshing on breakfast burritos, crustless quiche or oatmeal. Later, grilled cheese, a barbecue veggie burger and curried chickpea salad are faves. The other locations may be more polished, but this one has character thanks to the found-art sculpture around the front door, high ceilings and piles of well-read publications.
