Kathmandu Restaurant Review:
Dining at Kathmandu is like dining in an art gallery; Deepak Singh, the Nepalese proprietor, also owns East Bay gift shops. Momos, meat or vegetable dumplings served with sauce, are a specialty. The simply prepared char-grilled lamb marinated in spices is a good example of the cuisine. Vegetarian diners will enjoy a thick curry made with 19 varieties of beans in a garlic-kissed tomato sauce. Start the meal with the traditional Tibetan thukpa, ginger and garlic soup, or chatamari, a soft rice-flour bread stuffed with spicy chicken.
