Katie's Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review:
If you’re a first-timer, Katie’s may seem a little too crowded, a lot too loud and totally unpretentious, which is just fine with New Orleanians. Reliable and well operated, it serves good old-fashioned Southern cooking, with lots of Creole and Cajun touches. Begin with cheese bread or cheese fries, or the loaded potato skins. Follow it with a wedge salad (one of the best in town) with bacon and chunky house-made blue cheese dressing. Cochon de lait, catfish po’ boys and shrimp po’ boys (including a table-size version that serves four to six people), fried green tomatoes, build-your-own pasta dishes, huge burgers, bubbling lasagna, pizzas --- it’s all here. In fact, although pizza is not its calling card, Katie’s turns out some of the best in New Orleans. Wine selections are limited; instead, have a strong cocktail. For dessert, we suggest chocolate mousse cake or white chocolate bread pudding.
