Khyber Pass Restaurant Review:
The intimate setting --- complete with wafting aromas from the available hookah --- and genuine Afghan cuisine make Khyber Pass a special treat. On an otherwise unassuming --- some would call it tacky --- stretch of St. Marks Place, the venue quietly sits, one of the few Afghan restaurants in the whole of New York. It soldiers on with a solid kitchen that turns out authentic cuisine. Dig into fesenjan, sweet-and-sour chicken with pomegranate and walnuts, or ashak, steamed scallion dumplings with yogurt-mint sauce. Menu selections also include meat kebabs and vegetarian dishes like kabuli palow, browned basmati rice topped with raisins, slivered carrots and almonds. A two-person prix-fixe is available for less than $50.
