Kingside Diner Restaurant Review:
Given its location near the Chess Club and Scholastic Center and the World Chess Hall of Fame, this diner’s theme is pretty much inevitable. Customers do include plenty of parents killing time during lessons and tournaments, but they’re mixed in with neighborhood families and early-morning commuters picking up to-go orders. There’s a straightforward diner menu of pancakes, slingers, corned beef hash and such, or you can build your own omelet, burrito or flatbread with toppings like ham, chives, roasted red pepper, cheddar and chipotle aïoli. Coffees and teas stay on the simple side (though there is cappuccino), and the full bar is likewise stocked without a lot of extraneous bottles. Besides breakfast, there are burgers, sandwiches, salads and a smattering of entrées. Our pick is the beef-stuffed rolled cabbage, served in a raisin-tomato sauce over a bed of mashed potatoes.
