Kutsher's Restaurant Review:
Named for a former resort in The Catskill Mountains, Kutsher’s attempts to reinterpret and update Jewish cuisine for the twenty-first century. Does it succeed? It indeed serves up enjoyable, familiar fare in a modern setting in TriBeCa. It does not, however, do much updating, except for a tweak of an ingredient here and a spiffy presentation there. The menu is separated traditionally with appetizers and mains, but several of the former can constitute a meal. Potato latkes, served with apple “chutney” (it’s really just plain old apple sauce) were good, if a bit underwhelming. Perhaps the most inventive item on the menu is the pastrami eggroll. For a more substantial meal, we recommend Kutsher’s interpretations of duck schnitzel, lamb goulash and a pastrami Reuben sandwich. There are a handful of signature cocktails and a fair number of wines, all of which are a bit overpriced. For dessert, try the rainbow cookie hot fudge sundae.
