La Diagonal Agaveria Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Margaritas flow by the pitcher and the tacos are all soft-shelled, just the way you’d expect in an authentic Mexican (not Tex-Mexican) restaurant. Service at this friendly, airy place is spot-on as you select from the menu of ceviches, tacos, street foods and enchiladas. The restaurant opens onto the sidewalk in warmer weather and welcomes both adults and children.
Likes: Upscale, atypical Mexican menu and warm service.
Dislikes: The prices may seem a bit out of line for the neighborhood and portions can be quite small.
Food & Drinks: Margaritas come in various renditions and are made from the selection of more than 70 tequilas and mezcals. Mexican drink choices are given uptown twists, like the Michelada made with Pacifico beer and chipotle-infused tomato juice, and horchata spiked with two types of rums with mezcal. Guacamole is equally creative in its variations on a theme, with surprises such as bacon guacamole and crab guacamole. Mains are slightly less successful but the effort is present in creating dishes that smack of authenticity.
