La Fonda del Sol Restaurant Review:

This Spanish eatery located on the ground floor of the MetLife Building (at Grand Central Station) is a throwback to the 1960s, when three-martini lunches were de rigueur and the dining public had little knowledge of Spanish cooking. The restaurant consists of two rooms: a more formal dining room and a lounge. We like the latter for its floor-to-ceiling window views of the sidewalk and more casual atmosphere. The kitchen isn’t trying to reinvent the cuisine; it just churns out good, authentic Spanish tapas. Ham and potato croquettes are properly crispy, hot and fresh; “blistered peppers” are just salty enough; lamb meatballs are almost fall-apart tender; and the roasted pumpkin soup merits seconds. The cheesecake with poached pear ends the meal on a high note. And the wine list, consisting of mostly Spanish labels, has a few nice (though pricey) options by the glass.
